Sex Trafficking Common Warning Signs

  • Commercial sex is illegal in most states 

  • Individuals rarely self-identify as a victim 

  • Has multiple cell phones or electronic devices 

  • Inappropriate use of social media platforms 

  • Seen with another person that seems controlling

  • Apparent signs of physical or emotional abuse 

  • Appearance of being emotionally disconnected 

  • Evidence of poor health and personal hygiene 

  • Poor or non-existent record of school attendance 

  • Numerous inconsistencies in their story 

  • Not able to identify where they are staying 

  • Abnormally fearful of Law Enforcement 

  • Changes in behavior or appearance 

  • Sudden ownership of expensive items
